The rechargeable bulb is one of the few products designed around a Nigerian problem rather than adapted to it.
Screw it into any E27 holder and it behaves like an ordinary bulb. Kill the mains and it keeps burning off its own cell, with nobody getting up to find a torch.
It does not replace an inverter and nobody should sell it as one. It is the cheapest possible answer to the narrow question of not being in the dark, and at that job it is very hard to beat.
The complaint that is not a fault
Here is the thing that generates more returns than any actual defect in the product.
A rechargeable bulb only lights on battery if the wall switch is left on. If somebody switched the room off before the power went, the bulb sits there fully charged and does nothing, because as far as it can tell nobody wants light in that room.
About half the customers who bring one back as faulty have hit exactly this.
Explain it at the point of sale. If you are stocking these, put it on a card in the box. Units with a small remote control sidestep the problem entirely, which is why they command a premium and why people search for them by name.
Three specifications that matter

That middle row is where the market divides. A bulb giving 15W on mains and 4W on battery is not lying, but a customer who expected the same light will feel cheated. The better units hold most of their output on the cell and simply run for less time, which is the honest version of the trade.
Where they earn their place
Stairwells and corridors, where sudden darkness is genuinely dangerous rather than merely annoying.
Shops and small businesses, where trading continues through a short outage instead of stopping.
Children’s rooms, which is the most common reason a parent buys the first one and then buys five more.
Rentals and boys’ quarters, because there is nothing to install and nothing to leave behind.
And alongside an inverter, since even a well specified system has a moment of darkness during changeover.
The cell decides the lifespan
The battery inside is doing something demanding. Charging and discharging most days, sitting in a warm enclosure attached to a heat-producing LED, in a country that is hot before you add any of that.
Cheap units use whatever cell was available that week. The bulb works for a few months, the runtime falls to twenty minutes, then to nothing, and the LED itself is still perfectly good.
LiFePO4 costs more and tolerates heat and daily cycling far better. On a product whose entire value is the battery, that is a strange place to save money.
Ask for chemistry and capacity in milliamp-hours. A seller who can give you neither is selling on price alone.
Buying for resale
These are among the fastest-moving items in the category, for an obvious reason. They solve a daily irritation, they cost very little, and one satisfied customer buys six more for the rest of the house.
Stock a range of wattages, because a corridor and a shop floor are different jobs. Include remote-control units in the mix, since they answer the switch problem and customers ask for them by name. And insist on the battery specification rather than accepting the lowest quotation, because the failure mode of a cheap one is a customer who never returns.
