Slippers, slides and sandals are the highest-turnover footwear line in Nigeria and the easiest to sell.
They cost little, they get bought on impulse, they wear out, and every woman owns several pairs at once for different parts of her week.
They are also the line where one specification failure writes off a whole consignment, because a slipper with a strap that has pulled out is neither repairable nor sellable.
The strap anchor is the entire product
Ask one question before any other. Is the strap moulded through the sole, or glued to it?
A moulded strap passes through the sole and anchors underneath, so pulling on it works against the whole sole. A glued strap relies on an adhesive bond, and adhesive is exactly what fails first in Nigerian heat.
The customer walks out of the shop, the strap comes away in a fortnight, and she brings it back.
On the sandal and slide styles where a strap has to be attached rather than moulded, ask about the adhesive and test it properly. Flex a sample hard and repeatedly, then leave one in direct sun for a day and flex it again. Heat finds a weak bond considerably faster than wear does.
Three constructions, three jobs
EVA moulded. One piece of light foam. Waterproof, washable, cheap, and ideal for the rainy season and indoor wear. The weakness is that soft EVA compresses flat and the sole thins within months.
PVC and rubber. Heavier, more durable, better grip. What people buy for outdoor and market wear.
Dressier slides and heeled sandals. The better margin, sold on appearance, so finish, trim and colour matter more than the sole does.
Stock across all three. They sell to the same woman for different parts of her week, and a shop carrying only one is leaving money on the counter.
Grip is a safety question
Wet tiled floors and polished concrete are everywhere in Nigeria, and a smooth-soled slipper on a wet floor is genuinely dangerous.
Ask about the outsole tread pattern rather than just the appearance of the sole.
Then test it. Wet a tile and stand on it in a sample. It takes thirty seconds and it decides whether your shop gets a reputation for good slippers or for somebody’s fall.
Sizing, the way footwear has to be bought
| What to do | Why |
|---|---|
| Get internal length in millimetres per size | Printed size numbers are not standardised between factories. Millimetres are. |
| Sample across three sizes, not one | You are checking the grading is consistent across the run, not that one size happens to be right. |
| Weight the curve to middle and upper sizes | Foreign default ratios leave you with smalls and nothing large by week three. |
| Check width, not only length | A correct length in too narrow a fitting is still an unsold pair. |
Colour and trend
Neutrals carry the volume. Black, brown, cream, nude, white. They sell all year and never date.
Trend colours and embellished styles sell faster while they are current and become dead stock quickly, so they belong in the part of the order you can afford to be wrong about.
Because the minimum is 1,000 pairs across the whole order, with styles, colours and sizes mixed freely rather than per style, that split is straightforward to build. Put the bulk into neutrals and constructions that always sell, and use the remainder to test.
Our ladies’ slippers, slides and sandals cover the full catalogue across those constructions.
Two commercial notes
Slippers pair naturally with handbags in a boutique order, and with children’s sandals if you serve families. That is how a thousand-pair order gets built across a real range rather than one style.
And on freight, footwear is bulky and awkward. Boxed pairs take far more container space than flat-packed clothing of the same value, so ask whether they ship boxed or bagged and work out your cost per pair delivered rather than per carton.
Tell us the styles and the size range
What sells where you trade and roughly how many pairs. We will get internal lengths in millimetres for every size, test the strap anchoring and grip on samples before the balance is paid, and give you the landed cost per pair in naira with every line itemised.
