Rice mill capacity is quoted in paddy going in, not rice coming out. On Nigerian paddy the gap between those two numbers is wider than most first-time buyers plan for.

Description

A complete rice mill runs the crop through four stages: cleaning and destoning, husking, whitening, then grading and polishing. Sold as a set, the units are matched so one stage doesn't starve or flood the next.

The capacity figure on any listing is paddy input per hour. What you actually sell is milled rice, and the milling ratio does the rest of the arithmetic. Good, properly dried paddy might give you 65% head rice. Wet or badly stored paddy gives less, with more brokens, and brokens fetch a lower price. That's not a machine fault. It's what the machine was handed.

Destoning matters more here than the brochures suggest. Nigerian paddy carries more stone and grit than the samples these machines get tested on, and stone is what wears a whitening roller out early.

Input capacity is not output

The rated figure is paddy in. A 2 ton-per-hour mill processes 2 tons of paddy. It doesn't produce 2 tons of rice. Work your revenue off milled output and your milling ratio, never off the headline number.

Paddy moisture decides your ratio. Paddy above about 14% moisture mills badly and breaks more grain. If you don't have drying sorted, the mill will make that problem visible every single day.

Rated output assumes no stoppages. That figure is a clean, continuous run with dry paddy and no changeover. A real shift has breakdowns, breaks and refills. Plan on meaningfully less and you won't be disappointed.

Stone kills rollers. Skimp on the destoner to save on the set price and you'll pay it back in whitening rollers. We'd rather quote the destoner properly the first time.

Specification

These figures decide throughput and rice quality. We confirm them against written supplier data before quoting.

Capacity	Tons of paddy per hour or per day. Always input. Your milled output depends on paddy quality and your milling ratio.
Power supply	380V three-phase for a complete set, 50Hz, same frequency as our grid and every generator sold here.
Total connected load	The kW figure across all stages together. This is what sizes your generator, and on a complete set it's larger than people expect.
Configuration	Whether the set includes destoner, husker, whitener, grader and polisher, or only some of them. Compare like with like when you're comparing quotes.
Whitening roller type	Emery or steel. Affects finish, breakage rate, and how often you replace consumables.
Footprint and headroom	A complete set needs floor area and vertical clearance for the elevators between stages. Worth measuring before you commit.

We do not publish prices, because the landed figure depends on the specification, the Customs valuation and the exchange rate on the day you pay.

Minimum order

One complete set. That's the normal order and we'd generally advise against buying stages piecemeal from different suppliers, because matching throughput between mismatched units is a headache you don't need.

A second set only makes sense once your paddy supply is reliably feeding the first one.

What decides the right one

Your paddy supply comes first, not the machine. A mill sized for volume you can't source sits idle and ties up money you'd rather have in stock.

Then drying. If your paddy comes in wet, that's the constraint on your business, and no mill specification fixes it.

Then the configuration. A cheaper set that leaves out the destoner isn't cheaper by the time you've replaced rollers twice. We'll show you the difference in the quote so you can see exactly what you're trading.

What's the minimum order

One complete set. Most new millers start with a single line sized to the paddy they can actually buy.

What milling ratio should I expect

Around 65% head rice on good dry paddy, less on wet or poorly stored crop. We give you a realistic range, not a laboratory figure.

Can I run it on a generator

Yes, sized to the total connected load of the whole set with headroom for motor starting. We work that figure out with you before you buy a set.

Do I need the destoner

On Nigerian paddy, yes. Stone is the main thing that wears whitening rollers out early, and roller replacement costs more over a couple of years than the destoner does once.

How is it shipped and installed

Containerised, and we support installation and commissioning so the first proper milling run happens with someone who knows the machine standing next to it.
