Industrial Water Pumps, Valves and Hoses

Pump curves are honest documents. The problem is that almost nobody reads them, and a pump picked on its headline flow figure usually runs somewhere it was never meant to.

Description

A centrifugal pump's real specification is its curve, which plots flow against head. Pick a point on that curve and you get a matching efficiency and power draw. Every pump has a best efficiency point, and running far from it wastes power, generates heat and wears seals and bearings out early.

So the headline "50 cubic metres an hour" means nothing without the head it achieves that at. A pump moving 50 m3/h at 20 metres head is a different machine from one doing 50 m3/h at 60 metres.

Multistage pumps stack impellers to build head, which is what you need for borehole lifting and tall buildings. Single-stage pumps move volume at lower head. Different jobs.

On valves and hoses, the thing to get right is pressure rating against your working pressure, with margin for surge. And material against what's flowing through. Water, chemicals and slurry each want different things, and a valve chosen for the wrong fluid fails in ways that are expensive.

Flow means nothing without head

Ask for the pump curve. Flow and head together define a pump. A single flow figure with no head attached tells you almost nothing about whether it fits your system.

Off-curve running costs you. A pump far from its best efficiency point wastes power every hour it runs and wears out faster. Over a few years that's more than the price difference between pumps.

Pressure rating needs margin. Valves and hoses should be rated above your working pressure, with headroom for surge when something closes quickly. Working right at the rating is asking for a failure.

Material follows the fluid. Cast iron, stainless and bronze all have their place. Tell us what's flowing through before we quote, because getting this wrong is a leak waiting to happen.

Specification

These figures decide whether the pump fits your system. We confirm them against written supplier data before quoting.

Flow rate and head Cubic metres per hour at a stated head in metres. Both together, always. Neither on its own is a specification.
Pump type Single-stage for volume at lower head, multistage for borehole and high-rise lifting. Submersible or surface mounted.
Motor power and supply kW and whether single or three-phase. 380V three-phase at 50Hz matches our grid without correction.
Material of construction Cast iron, stainless steel or bronze, chosen for what's flowing through and how corrosive it is.
Valve pressure rating PN or class rating, with margin above your working pressure for surge.
Hose specification Working pressure, burst pressure and reinforcement type. Wire braided for hydraulic, textile for lower pressure water.

We do not publish prices, because the landed figure depends on the specification, the Customs valuation and the exchange rate on the day you pay.

Minimum order

Pumps go one at a time. Valves, fittings and hose come in quantity, and that's where consolidating an order pays off.

If you're building out a whole installation, send us the full list. Freight and clearing on one consolidated shipment beats three separate ones by a wide margin.

What decides the right one

Your system, not the pump. Flow needed, static lift, pipe length and fittings. That gives us the duty point, and the duty point picks the pump.

Then efficiency at that point, because it's what you pay for every hour the pump runs. A slightly more expensive pump running at its best point is usually cheaper by year two.

Then materials, based on the fluid. Clean water is easy. Anything corrosive or abrasive needs deliberate choices, and it's worth telling us early.

Common questions

What's the minimum order

One pump. Valves, fittings and hose have their own minimums, usually modest, and we consolidate them into one shipment.

How do I know what pump I need

Tell us flow required, how high you're lifting, pipe run and size. We work out the duty point and pick from the curve rather than from a catalogue headline.

Submersible or surface pump

Submersible for boreholes and deep lifts. Surface mounted where suction lift is short and access matters for maintenance.

Can you supply branded pumps

We can, and we verify branded goods before quoting. Counterfeits exist in this trade, so unbranded equivalents from a known factory are often the better value.

What about spares

Mechanical seals, bearings and impellers are the parts that wear. We recommend ordering a spares kit with the pump, because waiting on a seal stops your whole installation.
