An incubator holds eggs at a controlled temperature and humidity, turns them on a schedule, and manages air exchange. Setters run the first 18 days. Hatchers take the last three, at different humidity and without turning. Combined machines do both in one cabinet, which is simpler and slightly less efficient.
The capacity number is egg positions. What comes out depends on fertility, egg storage, handling and how stable your temperature stayed. Good eggs and steady power might give you 80-85%. Poor storage or a few hours of temperature swing pulls that down fast, and the machine gets the blame.
Which brings up the part that matters most here. An incubator that loses power mid-cycle loses the batch. Not some of it. Temperature stability over 21 days is the entire job, so backup power isn't an accessory on this purchase. It's part of the machine.
Power stability is the whole business
A power cut can cost you the batch. Eggs sitting at the wrong temperature for a few hours don't recover. Plan your backup power before you plan your incubator capacity, because one is useless without the other.
