Embroidered and lace-trim styles, and any custom label, tend to carry their own minimum on top of the standard figure. A first order is nearly always better placed as a size-and-style spread on stock washes, with the more decorated styles added once you know what your customers are actually asking for.

What decides the right one

Size accuracy comes first, ahead of style. A wide-leg jean in the wrong colour still sells if the size fits; a jean in the exact style a customer wanted does not sell if it does not go over the waist. Order against the centimetre chart, not the age label, and treat the label as a rough guide your customer will use, not a promise the goods will keep.

Then wash against use. Dark indigo hides the ordinary staining of a child in a school compound and moves as everyday wear all year. Light wash and distressed finishes are a fashion buy, sell more slowly outside their season, and are the styles to under-order on a first container rather than over-order.

Then embellishment against margin. Embroidery and lace trim lift the shelf price but add cost per piece and a longer production step; a plain elasticated-waist harem in a good wash outsells a decorated one on pure volume even where the decorated piece earns more per unit. The mixable minimum is what lets you test both in the same order rather than guessing which one your market wants.

Then the sample, which is the one part of this worth being slow about. Approve a physical piece in the smallest and largest size you intend to order, not just one middle size, and keep both in your office. A denim jean holds its shape differently at 2 years and at 14, and a single approved sample at one size tells you nothing about the other end of the range.
