Used Honda CR-V Compact SUV

A compact SUV with a 1,498 cc turbo making 193 PS and 243 N.m, returning 6.6 litres per 100 km, or a 2.0 litre hybrid at 4.8. Below the green tax threshold either way, left hand drive as built, 2015 or newer. One unit is a normal order.

Description

The CR-V is the compact SUV that people buy when they want the height and the boot without the fuel bill of something larger. In China it has been built by Dongfeng Honda since long before it became fashionable, and the Chinese range differs from the American one in two ways that matter.

The first is what is missing. America's fifth generation CR-V had a 2,356 cc naturally aspirated four in its base trim. China never got it in this car. Honda put that engine into a differently styled sister model, the Breeze, built by its other joint venture, and left the Dongfeng CR-V as a turbo and a hybrid. So a Chinese CR-V is a 1,498 cc turbo unless it is a hybrid, and there is no naturally aspirated version to look for.

The second is what is extra. China had the 2.0 litre i-MMD hybrid from 2017, roughly three years before America did. It returns 4.8 litres per 100 km on the Chinese cycle, and its 2.0 litre engine at 1,993 cc still sits below Nigeria's 2,000 cc green tax threshold. Whether a hybrid makes sense for you is a separate conversation about battery age and workshop familiarity, and we will have it honestly rather than sell you the headline figure.

The turbo car, badged 240TURBO, makes 142 kW and 243 N.m held from 2,000 to 5,000 rpm, through a CVT, and returns 6.6 litres per 100 km. The body is 4,585 mm long on a 2,660 mm wheelbase, which is the same for turbo and hybrid.

Since 1 July 2026 Nigeria's green tax has charged nothing below 2,000 cc and two per cent above it. Both Chinese CR-V engines clear it. Most American compact SUVs of this size do not.

It is left hand drive as built. Under the twelve year rule 2014 is the oldest year that can legally land in 2026, and we work to 2015 and newer.

There is one recall on the 2018 car that is not optional reading. It is below.

The 2018 recall you do not skip on this car

What happened. Dongfeng Honda recalled 130,455 model year 2018 CR-Vs with the 1.5 turbo because petrol was diluting the engine oil and the oil level was rising. It surfaced first in the cold north eastern provinces and then more widely.

The regulator rejected the first plan. On 1 March 2018 China's quality regulator refused Dongfeng Honda's initial recall proposal. The company stopped delivering 2018 CR-Vs and spent seventy five days rewriting it before approval came in May 2018. That history is public, and it is the reason this car needs checking rather than assuming.

The approved remedy is unusually broad. Replace the air conditioning control unit, upgrade the engine control software, change the oil, change the air filter and apply engine cleaner. On CVT cars, additionally replace the radiator's lower water pipe and upgrade the transmission control software. That is a workshop day, not a fifteen minute job.

So the question on any 2018 unit is simple. Was the campaign performed, in full, and is it on the record. We confirm it in writing before you commit, and where it is outstanding it gets done before the car is loaded.

A 2019 or later car is outside this campaign. If a supplier quotes you a 2018 CR-V and cannot answer the recall question, that is your answer.

Specification

Figures are Chinese-market manufacturer and homologation data for the model years we source. The specific unit is checked against its own certificate before we quote.

Body Five door, five seat compact SUV
Model years sourced 2015 and newer. 2014 sits at the legal edge of the twelve year rule and we stay clear of it
Petrol engine 1,498 cc turbocharged four, code L15BL, badged 240TURBO
Hybrid 1,993 cc Atkinson cycle four, code LFA11, with i-MMD drive. Available in China from 2017
Power and torque, 240TURBO 142 kW, 193 PS, and 243 N.m from 2,000 to 5,000 rpm
Hybrid output Engine 107 kW and 175 N.m, drive motor 135 kW and 315 N.m, 158 kW system total
Transmission CVT on the turbo, with a six speed manual on the base trim. E-CVT on the hybrid
Fuel consumption 6.6 litres per 100 km on the turbo and 4.8 on the hybrid, Chinese NEDC cycle
Dimensions 4,585 x 1,855 x 1,679 mm on a 2,660 mm wheelbase, identical for turbo and hybrid
Green tax band Nil on both engines. The turbo at 1,498 cc and the hybrid at 1,993 cc are each below the 2,000 cc threshold
Not available in China The 2,356 cc naturally aspirated engine. It went into the sister model, the GAC Honda Breeze, not into this car
Built by Dongfeng Honda, Wuhan. Parts carry ordinary Honda part numbers
Drive side Left hand drive as built, which is what Nigeria registers
Ground clearance Not published on the Chinese certificate. We measure it on the unit rather than repeat a figure we cannot support

We do not publish prices, because the landed figure depends on the specification, the Customs valuation and the exchange rate on the day you pay.

Minimum order

One unit. Vehicles carry no minimum order quantity, so a single vehicle is a normal order and we handle it the same way as a fleet purchase.

Where you are buying several, consolidating into one shipment reduces the cost per unit. A forty foot container ships at a flat rate whatever is inside it, and that rate divides across the vehicles in it. Freight also forms part of the CIF value duty is calculated on, so the saving reaches the duty bill as well as the shipping invoice.

A compact SUV packs better than a full size one, so the step from one unit to two is where the per unit figure moves most. We will tell you at what quantity it starts to matter for your route.

Lead time. About six to eight weeks quay to quay on the Lagos route, plus one to two weeks at origin for inspection, export paperwork and loading, and a further period for clearing and the drive out of the port. Where the 2018 recall is outstanding on the unit, the workshop time is added before loading and we tell you what it adds.

What decides the right one

Turbo or hybrid, first, because it decides who can service the car and what it is worth in five years. The hybrid wins on fuel by a wide margin and narrows your choice of workshop. The turbo is the safer general answer outside the big cities.

Then the year, and specifically whether it is a 2018 car. On a 2018 unit the recall position is the most important line on the report and it is answerable. On a 2019 or later car the question does not arise.

Then the service record, because the 1.5 turbo rewards a car serviced on time and punishes one that was not. A thin history should move the price rather than be argued past.

Then the trim, which most buyers start with and which matters least.

If a compact SUV is not what the job needs, say what the job is. We source across saloons, SUVs, pickups and commercial vehicles.

Common questions

What is the minimum order?

One unit. Vehicles carry no minimum order quantity, so a single vehicle is a normal order and we handle it the same way as a fleet purchase.

Does ordering more than one reduce the cost?

Yes, on freight and clearing. A forty foot container ships at a flat rate whatever is inside it, and that rate divides across the vehicles in it. Freight also forms part of the CIF value duty is calculated on, so the saving reaches the duty bill as well as the shipping invoice. A compact SUV packs better than a large one, so two fit comfortably.

Should I buy the hybrid?

Only with your eyes open. It is far more economical at 4.8 litres per 100 km, and it is a well proven system. Against that, the battery has an age as well as a mileage, and fewer workshops here are set up for hybrid diagnosis. If the car will live outside Lagos or Abuja, the turbo is the safer choice.

Where is the 2.4 litre CR-V?

Not in China. Honda put that engine in the Breeze, a sister model built by its other joint venture with different front and rear styling. If you specifically want the 2.4, it is a different car and we will price it as one, and it crosses the 2,000 cc green tax line.

Is a CVT a problem in Lagos traffic?

No. CVTs are smooth in stop and start conditions and have no clutch packs to cook. They want the correct fluid at the correct interval, and they do not forgive being ignored.

How do I know the mileage is real?

You get the VIN, the recorded mileage, the service history, the recall position and an accident check before you commit. Where the record and the car disagree we say so and move to another unit.

Which model years can actually land?

Used vehicles more than twelve years old from year of manufacture are prohibited, which makes 2014 the oldest legally importable year in 2026. We work to 2015 and newer.
