Nobody photographs how a fabric feels, and in sleepwear that is the whole purchase. It is the category where an approved sample is least optional.

Pyjama sets, nightdresses, robes and lounge separates, sourced in bulk for retailers, boutiques and gift trade.

This is a repeat purchase category, which changes how you should buy it. A customer who liked what she bought comes back for the same thing in another colour, and comes back for it as a gift. That only works if your second order feels like your first, so consistency of fabric matters more here than in any other apparel line we handle.

The common constructions are cotton jersey, woven cotton or poplin, polyester satin, and modal or viscose blends for the softer end. Satin photographs beautifully and behaves differently on a body than in a picture, which is the reason returns happen.

Specification

Fabric and composition	Cotton jersey, woven cotton, poplin, polyester satin, or a modal blend. State the fibre percentages rather than a fabric name, because names travel loosely between factories.
Weight and hand	GSM for knits, and thread count or grams per metre for wovens. Neither number fully captures the hand, which is why the sample matters here more than the specification.
Breathability	Polyester satin is the cheapest luxurious-looking option and the least comfortable to sleep in through a Nigerian night. Worth deciding deliberately rather than by price.
Colourfastness	Ask for wash and rub fastness. Dark satins and printed cottons bleed, and sleepwear gets washed constantly.
Elastic and waistbands	Covered elastic, and its recovery after washing. Slack waistbands are the most common complaint on pyjama trousers.
Set matching	Where a top and trouser are sold together, confirm both come from the same dye lot. Mismatched sets are hard to sell and easy to miss at inspection.
Sizing and grading	Measurement chart in centimetres. Sleepwear is cut generously, so factory sizing varies more here than in fitted garments.
Packing	Sets are frequently sold in printed boxes or bags for the gift trade, which is worth specifying if that is your market.

Typically 100 to 500 pieces or sets per style per colour on a factory order, lower where we buy from existing stock. We confirm the figure with the supplier before you commit and show it in the quotation.

Check whether a set counts as one piece or two against the minimum. Factories differ on this and it changes the order size materially.

Printed fabrics usually carry a higher minimum than plain ones, because the print run itself has a minimum length. If you want a print, ask about that separately.

What decides the right one

The sample, and then keeping it. In a repeat purchase category the sealed sample is your contract with the factory for every future order, and buyers who skip it end up with a second shipment that customers can tell is not the same.

Then the honest question of what your customer sleeps in. Satin sells on a shelf and cotton comes back for a second purchase, and which of those you want depends on whether you are running a market stall or building a name.

Then dye lots, because a mismatched set is unsellable and it is the most common defect in this category.
