JMC All New Carrying Light Truck

One light truck platform offered as a bare chassis cab, a dropside or a cargo box, in single or double cab, on wheelbases from 2,490 to 3,360 mm. A 2.5 litre diesel making 350 N.m, and a six metre turning radius that matters more in a market street than any power figure. One unit is a normal order.

Description

Most fleet buyers do not need a different truck for every job. They need one chassis they can trust and the right body on top of it.

The engine is the NB25, a 2.5 litre diesel producing 100 kW and 350 N.m, fed by a Bosch CB4 common rail system running up to 2,000 bar. Thermal efficiency reaches 45 percent, which is high for a light commercial diesel, and it shows in the fuel figure: as low as 8.18 litres per 100 km. Top speed is 130 km/h and it reaches 80 km/h in 18.4 seconds, which tells you honestly that this is a load carrier and not a fast vehicle.

Transmission is a five speed manual. There is no automatic, and at this size that is the right commercial decision rather than a shortcoming. Fewer parts to fail, cheaper to fix, and any commercial mechanic in the country can rebuild the box.

Choose the body by the load. The bare chassis cab takes whatever body you have built locally. The dropside is the pick for building materials, cement, drums and anything loaded from the side by forklift. The cargo box keeps freight dry, out of sight and locked, which is what distribution and FMCG work needs.

Wheelbases run 2,490 to 3,360 mm with overall lengths from 4,705 to 5,995 mm, so the truck can be matched to the route rather than the other way round. Axle capacity reaches 2.6 tonnes at the front and 3.9 tonnes at the rear.

The cab is 1,740 mm wide now, up from 1,690 on the previous generation, with 1,510 mm of interior width across it. Single or double cab. Dual airbags and electronic stability control are available on N1 class builds.

The figure worth dwelling on is the six metre turning radius. On a Lagos market street, in a compound gate, reversing onto a narrow shop front, that number decides whether the vehicle can do the job at all.

Size the body on internal height, not on length

Height is the constraint, not length. The mistake we see most often on light trucks is sizing the body on length. Light bulky goods run out of space long before they run out of payload, and internal height decides whether you can double stack. Get it wrong and you pay to move air on every trip for the life of the vehicle.

Tell us what you carry and how it stacks. Not what length of truck you had in mind. The body types here sit on a common platform, so switching between them at order stage costs you nothing. Switching after the truck is built costs you a truck.

Wheelbase is the other order-time decision. A 3,360 mm wheelbase carries more per trip. A 2,490 mm one gets into places the long truck simply cannot reach. If your routes are urban markets and narrow compounds, shorter usually earns more.

On the rules that end most cheap finds: specify left hand drive, which is what Nigeria registers, and note that as a new unit the twelve year age limit does not apply.

Specification

One platform, several body types and wheelbases. Figures are manufacturer specification for the export model, confirmed against the specific build before we quote.

Class Light duty truck. Chassis cab, dropside or cargo box, single or double cab
Engine NB25 2.5 litre diesel with Bosch CB4 common rail to 2,000 bar
Power and torque 100 kW and 350 N.m
Thermal efficiency Up to 45 percent
Fuel consumption From 8.18 litres per 100 km
Transmission Five speed manual. No automatic option
Performance 0 to 80 km/h in 18.4 seconds, top speed 130 km/h
Wheelbase 2,490 to 3,360 mm
Overall length 4,705 to 5,995 mm depending on wheelbase and body
Turning radius 6 metres
Axle capacity Up to 2.6 tonnes front, 3.9 tonnes rear
Cab 1,740 mm wide, 1,510 mm interior width. Single or double cab
Aerodynamics Drag coefficient 0.477
Safety Dual airbags and electronic stability control available on N1 class builds
Export status Built for export. International parts channel, export warranty and homologation documentation all apply
Drive side Left hand drive for Nigeria. A right hand drive version exists for other markets and is not what you want here
Model year New unit, so the twelve year age rule does not apply

We do not publish prices, because the landed figure depends on the specification, the Customs valuation and the exchange rate on the day you pay.

Minimum order

One unit. Vehicles carry no minimum order quantity, so a single truck is a normal order and we handle it the same way as a fleet purchase.

Where you are buying several, consolidating into one shipment reduces the cost per unit on freight and clearing. On a vehicle of these dimensions the saving comes through clearing, handling and port charges rather than through container sharing, since a light truck does not stack into a box the way cars do.

Because the body types sit on a common platform, a mixed fleet order is straightforward. Two dropsides and three box bodies is one order, one set of spares and one maintenance routine.

We will tell you at what quantity that starts to matter for your route, and quote the options side by side rather than presenting one number.

Lead time. About six to eight weeks quay to quay on the Lagos route, plus one to two weeks for export preparation at origin and a further period for clearing and the drive out of the port. Body build to order adds time at the factory end. Lead time depends on availability, shipping schedule and clearing rather than on manufacture, so we give you a range and keep you informed rather than a fixed date we cannot control.

What decides the right one

Internal height against what you stack, first and above everything else. That single figure decides whether the truck earns its keep or carries air.

Then the body type, which follows the cargo. Sealed and dry means a cargo box. Loaded by forklift from the side means a dropside. Building your own body means the bare chassis cab.

Then wheelbase, where longer is not automatically better. 3,360 mm carries more per trip and 2,490 mm reaches places the long truck cannot. If the routes are urban, shorter usually wins, and the six metre turning radius is why.

And then the question nobody asks until later: what happens when it needs parts. A common light truck platform with a simple manual gearbox and an export parts channel behind it is repairable anywhere. That is worth more over five years than any cab feature.

If the tonnage is heavier than this, say so. JMC builds dump, refrigerator and wrecker bodies as well, and we would rather move you up the range than sell you a truck that spends its life overloaded.

Common questions

What is the minimum order?

One unit. Vehicles carry no minimum order quantity, so a single truck is a normal order and we handle it the same way as a fleet purchase.

Does ordering more than one reduce the cost?

On trucks this size the saving comes through clearing and handling rather than container sharing, because a light truck of these dimensions does not share a container the way cars do. We quote roll on roll off and consolidated options and show you where the numbers land at your quantity.

Which body do I need?

Dropside for building materials, drums and anything loaded by forklift from the side. Cargo box for distribution, FMCG and anything that must stay dry and locked. Bare chassis cab if you are having a body built locally to your own design.

Why is there no automatic?

Because at this size a five speed manual is the better commercial decision. It costs less to buy, less to repair, and any commercial mechanic in the country can work on it. On a truck that has to earn daily, that matters more than driver comfort.

Can I mix body types in one order?

Yes. The platform is common, so a fleet can run two dropsides and three box bodies without splitting the order or the maintenance.

What does the six metre turning radius actually buy me?

Access. It is the difference between reversing onto a narrow shop front in one movement and not being able to serve that customer at all. On urban distribution routes it is worth more than payload.

I need something heavier than this

Tell us the tonnage and the routes. JMC also builds dump trucks, refrigerator trucks and wrecker bodies, and we source tippers, low beds and tractor units besides. This platform is the light end of the range.
