An extension box is the cheapest electrical item most people ever buy. It routinely ends up carrying a television, a decoder, a router, a laptop and a games console at once.
The thing costing least in the room is protecting everything costing most.
It is also, quietly, one of the more common causes of household electrical fires in Nigeria.
Two different failures
Overload. Every board has a current rating. Plug in more than it can carry and the cable heats along its whole length. A thin cable with an optimistic rating printed on it heats faster, and the failure is a melted socket or a fire behind furniture where nobody sees it starting. The worst case is a heating appliance, an iron or a kettle, plugged into a board never designed for that load.
Surge. A spike arrives from the supply and passes straight through to whatever is plugged in. The electronics absorb it and the damage is silent and permanent.
Different problems, different solutions. A board that solves only one is very often sold as though it solved both.
Telling real surge protection from a light
Plenty of boards carry a small neon labelled surge protected. In many of them that light indicates power, not protection, and there is no meaningful component behind it.
Real protection has a specification, and it is short.

Surge protection wears out
Almost nobody knows this.
The component that absorbs surges is consumed a little each time it works. After enough events it is spent. The board carries on delivering power exactly as before, protecting nothing at all.
Which is why the protection indicator matters. A board that cannot tell you it has stopped working is a board you will keep trusting for years after it stopped deserving it.
The socket pattern decides whether it sells
Nigeria runs 230V at 50Hz on the BS 1363 socket. Three rectangular pins, the same pattern as the United Kingdom.
Overseas catalogues default to their own market, and a container of the wrong socket pattern is stock nobody can use.
Universal sockets that accept several plug types look convenient and are a genuine safety compromise, because the contacts cannot grip every shape properly and a loose contact under load is exactly how heat starts. For general household stock, the proper BS 1363 pattern is the answer.
USB ports, and the number that gets hidden
USB has moved from a feature to an expectation, and the ports are now why many customers pick one board over another.
Two things separate a good implementation from a token one. Total output shared across the ports, and whether at least one is USB-C with Power Delivery rather than an old 5V trickle.
A board with four USB ports sharing a small total output charges four devices slowly and disappoints everybody. Ask for the combined figure, not the port count.
Buying for resale
These are among the most searched electrical items in Nigeria, and the searches are specific. Extension box with surge protector. Extension box with USB port. Extension box 5 metre. Those are your product lines, written for you by the market.
One warning on the economics. Extension boxes are bulky for their value, so freight eats margin here more than on almost anything else in the category. Work out cost per unit delivered rather than per container, and check how many fit a load before comparing unit prices.
On small quantities a Nigerian distributor frequently beats importing, and we will say so when that is the case.

Before the order
